Conduct a product recall

About this business activity

If a product is unsafe, a company may do a recall to protect consumers and avoid liability. A recall memo would outline steps, like identifying the defective product, notifying customers, and arranging for the return or exchange of the product.

Conducting A Product Recall (Memorandum For Board Of Directors)

This document provides an example of a memorandum to a board of directors highlighting the issues to consider when conducting a product recall, if faced with a serious consumer product safety issue under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (SI 2005/1803). The Regulations implement the EU's General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) in the UK. This document refers to the Code of Practice on product recall and other corrective actions (PAS 7100:2022) issued by the British Standards Institution. The Code can be downloaded free of charge from the BSI website.
