Key information document
An agency worker is an individual who has been supplied by a recruitment agency to work for a hirer. The hirer pays the agency for the worker’s services, and the agency pays the worker’s wages.
There are a number of reasons why someone might want to use an agency worker agreement. Firstly, it can be a more cost-effective way of staffing a business as the agency will usually charge a lower rate than the worker’s normal hourly rate. Secondly, it can be a flexible way of staffing as the business can use the agency to source workers for specific roles or periods of time as and when they are needed. Finally, it can be a good way of trying out new staff as the business can terminate the agreement at any time if they are not happy with the worker’s performance.
