**LONDON and NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2026.** GenieAI, the AI-powered legal technology platform designed to streamline contract workflows, today launched Legal Specialist Agents for multi-agent legal workflows with a self-building harness.

Every legal request is different: its own parties, its own paper, its own risks. Yet most legal AI asks someone to design the workflow before the AI can start, and then runs every request through it.

Legal Specialist Agents rebuild how Genie runs legal work, from the agents to the editor. For each piece of work, Genie's agents decide which specialists the job needs, in what order, and what must be checked before anything leaves.

GenieAI's Legal Specialist Agents:

- **Forms a different team for every task:** A two-page NDA needs two agents and one quality gate. A 40-document due diligence brings in 12 agents and three review gates. The work sets the shape of the team, not a template.
- **Writes its own tools while it works:** The agents build the harness each job needs and write their own tools at runtime: short programs that read the documents, check the clauses and link every finding to its source. When complex work arrives, the agents search for approved legal websites to check the latest law in the relevant jurisdiction before proceeding.
- **Builds on work already done in a matter:** Each task starts with what the agents have already completed on that matter, so the next one starts further ahead.
- **Escalates only what needs judgment:** Routine steps run inside the customer's rules. Exceptions go to a named person.

## Built by a small team and its agents

Across AI, agents have started building the systems themselves, with people overseeing the work. This is how GenieAI builds. A small team of engineers runs Genie's custom-built Software Factory: a specialised AI agent harness in which agents build and review production code using rules preset by the engineers.

The technology underneath Legal Specialist Agents was built by 75 agents, working through an afternoon and overnight. The agents' work came back to an engineer four or five times, as required by the preset rules, when a human-made decision was needed. On another job, the factory merged 18 feature flags and asked three or four questions along the way.

## Defining the need for Agentic Legal Specialists

Legal teams giving AI a try kept raising the same issue. A document with track changes on comes back in a file whose formatting has fallen apart. This requires the team to spend valuable time reformatting the document. If the document is broken, nobody trusts the review. Genie now edits the original Word file with its formatting intact, keeps every version and lists every open issue in a review by severity.

"Legal teams know what they want from AI: answers they can rely on, every time, without becoming the bottleneck themselves," said Rafie Faruq, co-founder and CEO of GenieAI. "What they get is AI that gives one answer on Monday and another on Tuesday, and a workflow someone has to design before it can run. Legal Specialist Agents remove both problems. The agents build the right team for each job from the company's own standards."

## How it works

Each agent has a legal role, from drafting and negotiation to risk analysis, research and proofreading. They organise themselves around each job, share their work, check each other's output and bring in another specialist mid-task if needed.

Underneath each agent is a self-building harness. For each request, a lead agent plans the job, deciding which specialist agents are required, in which order the work is done, which model runs each step and which quality gates must be passed. The specialists then write the tools they need at runtime. Every tool is checked for coverage, reviewed by a second agent and run in a secure sandbox with read-only access.

"Most legal AI runs on a fixed harness: the same set of workflows for every kind of legal task," said Nitish Mutha, co-founder and CTO of GenieAI. "We have pushed the frontier further. Our agents decide for themselves the best way to solve each problem, build the tools they need along the way and verify their own work."

## Benchmarks

GenieAI stress tests its agents on real-world legal matters, not single questions. In each situation GenieAI hides problems across documents and plants traps that look like issues but are settled elsewhere in the file. The other side cites law that does not hold, and the bundle includes confidential material a careful lawyer would refuse to use. Legal engineers set out what sound advice must contain before any system runs. Every system then gets the same documents, the same question and the same judge.

In two published head-to-head reports, Legal Specialist Agents passed every check. During a [contract renegotiation](https://www.genieai.co/legal-ai-tool-benchmarks/genieai-vs-claude-cowork-hal-8a-renegotiation-oct-2026), they found the client's liability would exceed its insurance and set aside a confidential email sent in error, passing 11 of 11 checks. Claude Cowork passed eight, missing the insurance gap and repeating the email. In a [force majeure dispute](https://www.genieai.co/legal-ai-tool-benchmarks/genieai-vs-claude-cowork-tesla-nexgen-force-majeure-oct-2026), across 57 documents, they traced a supplier's concealed supply chain change through a private chat and an internal email. They linked every point to its clause, page and date, and passed 15 of 15 against nine.

Behind each result is the harness that reads every document clause by clause, checks cited law against approved legal sources and passes quality gates before anything leaves. Every check is published on [genieai.co](https://www.genieai.co/legal-ai-tool-benchmarks), and GenieAI supports independent reruns.
